Food Insecurity

Why Food Insecurity?

Food insecurity has become extremely relevant as many more are facing insecurities not only with food but also other aspects of their lives such as employment, housing, etc. Many are having to make extreme choices every day as to where they will place their money, for basic necessities, food, water, or shelter. The effects of prolonged food insecurity leads to many problems later on for those affected, whether mentally or phyiscally. It is important to consider just how food insecurity affects us, not just individually but also as a country, elping those that need help will allow them to get back on their feet and help others as well. Regardless of whether a person or not has been in that situation, we must recognize the diffculty of sustaining oneself in a society that is constantly changing and how it is becoming more expensive to live.

Design Choices

When thinking of food there are many bold, strong colors that come to mind such as blue, red, yellow, etc. The topic of food insecurity can be quite serious and I did not wish to use colors that are bold and used to intice hunger. I went for a cool, green palette to convey openness and tranquility and is subtle compated to other stronger colors. The color green is quite neutral compared to the stronger colors used for food establishments. For my font choices, I decided to go for a round font for large paragraphs to feel less intimidating and a bold, blocky type to bring emphasis to certain aspects of the webpage, and kept ir simple by only using those two fonts and two shades of green. The layout of the website is simple to navigate and not meant to be overwhelming with the amount of content displayed.

Usability Principles

  1. Providing consistent styles throughout my webpages
  2. Knowing the purpose of the website and making that information obvious and easy to access
  3. Have resources that a viewer might ask for and have them available
